Stornoway Guest House Accommodation
Stornoway is the main town of the Isle of Lewis in the Western Isles / Outer Hebrides of Scotland. As such it has all the amenities and facilities that you would expect to find in a modern town. As well as the usual the town also has some rather interesting points with the most obvious being Lews Castle which is shown to the left. Once the home of Lord Leverhulme (who created Lever Bros) the castle was once richly decorated but, sadly, it is now in a desperate state of repair.
Lord Leverhulme purchased the Isle of Lewis in 1918 but, after a concerted, but doomed. effort to modernise the areas industry, he abandoned Lewis in preference to the Isle of Harris. The town of Stornoway, including Lews Castle, was gifted to the folk of the town who are now responsible for it's upkeep. Unfortunately the expense to repair/renovate the building is rather high and until such time as a suitable purpose/function of the building can be decided upon there seems to be few economic reasons for such a large investment, which is really unfortunate.
